Recognising Staff Excellence

Emily Wheeler, Sova Project Manager at The One Service - Sova wins award of excellence.

SaferPeterborough is a community safety partnership made up of local organisations who work together to reduce crime and the fear of crime in Peterborough. Emily Wheeler, Project Manager for the One Service (based in Peterborough) was nominated by Social Finance for an award through the SaferPeterborough Partnership which recognises staff excellence and those who go the extra mile to achieve the shared aims of reducing crime, tackling anti-social behaviour and hate crime, and building stronger and more supportive communities. What’s more, Emily won the award!

The nomination put forward outlined Emily’s role as the Sova Project Manager within the One Service: “She is responsible for recruitment, training and supervision of the 50 volunteer mentors who work with One Service clients. Her role requires passion, energy, resilience, patience and tenacity, fortunately Emily has these qualities in abundance.

The volunteering side of our work floundered during the first year of the project but Emily accepted the challenge from Year 2 when Sova were awarded the Peterborough contract. Rather than sit back and grumble about low numbers she came up with creative solutions for attracting clients and volunteers to get involved in mentoring relationships. We have experienced many successful outcomes thanks to her hard work.

Emily’s volunteers provide over 100 hours of support a month for ex prisoners. We now receive around 10 new volunteer applications a month and this is because she has created a vibrant team that people want to work with.”

Emily is a dedicated Sova employee, making a huge difference in Peterborough and driving Sova forward as a valued and leading partner. It is a huge accolade that a partner organisation has made this nomination and we are extremely proud of her.

Emily was presented with the Award in March at a team meeting, and was absolutely thrilled, she said ‘It was very kind of Janette to recognise how hard we all work to ensure that we make a real impact on the lives of those that are released from HMP Peterborough.  I couldn't believe that she nominated me, it was so thoughtful of her.  When we work so hard it really is amazing to be recognised!  And winning just meant so much’
