South Yorkshire Offender Mentoring

Sova and South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company Ltd are working in partnership to support offenders across the county. Sova will recruit, train and support community volunteers to be matched as mentors to offenders referred to the service by South Yorkshire Responsible Officers.

This mentoring project works to address the multiple barriers faced by disadvantaged offenders. The project offers community mentoring and a range of intervention activities that aim to enable its participants to realise their full potential.

Local volunteers are recruited, trained and managed to work in conjunction with the Community Rehabilitation Company officers. The mentors are matched to offenders and a bespoke support package is agreed to enable and empower the offender to overcome barriers and successfully complete their community order.

This project will assist the Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) in improving the quality of offenders’ lives and in turning around their lives.

The CRC is part of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS), an agency of the Ministry of Justice, and works with offenders throughout South Yorkshire from offices in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster and in courts and prisons. The Sova project aims to influence future service provision and assist the CRC in reducing re-offending.
