Volunteer Mentor – SOM – Bexley
Do you want to contribute to improving people’s quality of life and supporting them to sustain their tenancy? Have you got some spare time? Do you want to help improve your community and gain valuable skills and experience whilst helping others?
If you answered yes to any of the above then we have an opportunity for you! Sova Orbit Mentoring are searching for energetic and motivated individuals who are open minded to support Orbit South Housing Association residents. We know that feeling secure in your home and being able to manage your own tenancy and bills is one of the most important aspects of people’s lives. We believe everyone should have a home where they feel safe, in control and able to build on their future.
As a volunteer mentor with Sova Orbit Mentoring – you can help others to achieve this. You will be supporting residents by providing practical and emotional support, helping residents with:
- Understanding their tenancy agreement
- Providing advice and guidance on benefits and making claims
- Help managing money and making rent payments
- Setting up and paying utility bills
- Providing support to residents who are affected by anti-social behaviour
- Signposting to other services for additional or specialist support
Our volunteer support is provided through 1:1 mentoring, drop in services and a preparing for tenancy programme. This programme supports residents who may need additional information on benefits and budgeting, maintaining their home, theirs and their landlords’ responsibilities, dealing with anti-social behaviour and eating well on a budget. We also offer a community based mediation service which our volunteers can sign up for and train as a mediator.
This role is ideal for anyone who is looking to gain further experience in supporting individuals with complex and multiple needs including mental health, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and substance misuse.
Time commitment: 1-4 hours per week
