Volunteer Mentors - SSYPP - Staffordshire
Do you have a few hours per week to spare? We are looking to recruit committed volunteers in your local area to provide a mentoring support service to children who are looked after by Staffordshire County Council.
Staffordshire and Shropshire Young People's Project provide volunteers to children and young people between the ages of 13 - 21 years who require short term support. A Sova mentor is a consistent, reliable person in a young person's life, who acts as a positive role model throughout their transition from care to independence. Support is target specific as the young person will have a specific need or aim that they need to overcome or achieve. As a volunteer you will be meeting once a week, usually between one to two hours for six to twelve months. Once the specific target is reached, the relationship will come to a close, allowing the young person with the ability to complete or continue the task independently.
We are looking to recruit people who are over the age of 18 and who have a genuine interest in supporting children and young people. We need committed volunteers who can offer their time and commitment to be a consistent, trustworthy person in a young person's life. No experience is required as full training and support is provided.
All volunteers must complete a CERTA accredited Sova Core Skills training course before becoming a volunteer. References and DBS checks are required.
If you are interested in volunteering we would like to hear from you as our recruitment process is on-going.
Time commitment: 1-4 hours per week
Closing date: 31/03/2019
