Sova Derby Engage PCC Mentoring

Sova Derby Engage offers mentoring for young people aged 8-19 thanks to funding from the Police Crime Commissioner.

The young people will be supported to improve their resilience to life's challenges, attain new skills and behaviours which make them able to desist from crime, and demonstrate increased social capital via making a positive contribution to their communities by engaging in law abiding, healthy and positive behaviour.

By supporting, challenging and inspiring young people to make changes to improve their lives, we help them stay out of trouble and  rebuild their family and personal relationships giving them greater stability and support. This allows them to improve engagement in mainstream education, training and employment opportunities and contribute to the local community.

Each of the 30 mentoring relationships will receive a minimum of 12 interventions totalling an average of 24 hours support to each young person with the aim of:

  • Teaching new skills and behaviours which make them able to desist from crime
  • Improving self-confidence
  • Improving core living skills such as time-keeping, cooking and cleaning
  • Improving personal attitudes to self and others
  • Improving the young person’s aspirations
