Apply to become a volunteer

At Sova we are fanatical about supporting and guiding those who need help finding their way back into society. But we need help too. The success of our programmes depends on people like you giving your time to be there when we can’t. In return, you will gain valuable experience, skills and a real sense of achievement.

With around 40 initiatives across the country - from Mentoring and Appropriate Adults, to Independent Visitors – there’s plenty of opportunity for you to make a difference.

Sova promotes a high standard of practice for volunteer mentoring. All applicants are DBS checked1, and those who have successfully passed the interview process undertake Sova Volunteer Training, and have the opportunity to have their learning accredited to Certa Level 2. This gives them the skills and confidence they need to successfully engage with and support our clients.

Once matched, our volunteers are given ongoing help and encouragement, as well as regular supervision, access to specialist training and the opportunity to meet with other volunteers to share their experiences.

If you’d like to join our team of Sova volunteers, please find the project and current opportunities nearest to you and follow the link to complete the Volunteer Application Request form.

1 We operate an equal opportunities policy, and therefore having a criminal record will not necessarily prohibit an applicant from volunteering on our projects - it will depend on the nature of the volunteering role and the nature of their offences. All applicants will be expected to fully disclose any criminal convictions and be prepared to have a DBS check before becoming an active volunteer.
